Bath Abbey
We spent a weekend in this beautiful city to sightsee and celebrate! The trustees of Umutima invited fiends and family to Bath to share stories and celebrate successes in our partnership work in Zambia.
Bath has a lot to offer visitors and we were spoilt for choice for things to do!
The city centre offers a range of shops, cafes and street entertainment as you will see. Whether it was a coffee or places to eat we were not short of options.
There are maps with points of interest located throughout the streets, which we found really helpful.
A friend who studied at The University of Bath sent us a map to assist with our trip, making sure we saw all of the best bits!

We managed to complete all of the points of interest on our friend’s annotated map, see pictures of some of the locations below…

YHA Bath
This is where we stayed YHA Bath which was in a fantastic location for all we wanted to do! The staff were so friendly and helpful, even kept the reception open for us when our flight was delayed from Edinburgh the night we checked in. We had private room in the hostel with linen provided and shower and toilet across the hall. The bus stop is right outside and the University a 15 min walk up the hill.

Inside the Abbey
The Abbey has no set entry fee, they take donations as you come in. They also run tours, we didn’t opt for one as there was a lot to see inside including some impressive artwork…

As well as pieces of art the Abbey also had an impressive collection of items which were linked to the people of Bath and their connections within the Abbey.
These post cards are based around themes of place, attachment, locality and memory and can be found at postcards to locals.

We went out on to the streets of Bath and ticked off a few more tourist spots

After a rather busy afternoon we went to chill on the famous Royal Crescent with some friends before heading to Milsom Place for food.
We opted for Italian and certainly were not disappointed with Carluccios for a 3 course meal and and wine for a brilliant price.
The evening event was hosted at Cafe in The Edge Arts Centre, where we enjoyed nibbles and drinks along with a presentation and Ceilidh!
Granny Blackhall wins an award for her selfless work to raise money for our education and sport programme. She sells kindlers in her local community, assists at events and paints her very own art work to make money for the charity. We are so very grateful as she herself has never been to Zambia and provides a future for young people through her hard work.

Outstanding Contribution Award – Bex Maybury
Bex (top right) wins the Outstanding Contribution Award for her amazing commitment and hard work as a trustee in a range of roles. She even gave up work a day a week to volunteer for the charity getting our website set up, new stories out there for more to see and organised the epic Kilimanjaro trek which raised over £20,000!

Umutima = Family !
We finished our brilliant trip with a stroll around Bath on Sunday morning. The mums went for a relaxing Therma Spa trip. The Therma Spa cannot be booked, we went at 10.30 and they didn’t have to que for too long to get a ticket for a 2 hour session.
Rachel and I went to meet friends at Adventure Cafe before meeting the mums at the Boston Tea Party cafe.
We had a great trip with brilliant people and celebrated the successes of our amazing charity as well as welcoming new board members into the Umutima family.
